As you probably know by now, the FAA Tuesday released the long-awaited UAS rule, Part 107, establishing commercial operating rules for small unmanned aircraft weighing 54 pounds or less. It eliminates the need for a 333 exemption in this weight class and allows for waivers to be applied for online. It’s good news for the commercial drone industry, which is expected to grow into a $20.6 billion global market over the next five years, according to a March 2016 report from Goldman Sachs. There is a lot to be digested, the ruling with the regulations and the responses to the NPRM is 624 pages long but don’t despair, as the actual regulations only take 34 pages of the document.
