The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued just under 1,000 Certificates of Waiver (COW) to UAS 107 operators as of June 12th, 2017. By far, the largest total of COW’s granted have been for FAR 107.29- Daylight Operation or the ability to operate at night. The good news is the FAA has begun issuing the next most requested COW’s, 107.31- Operations Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) and 107.39- Operation Over Human Beings Not Directly Involved in the Operation. It is important to closely follow the FAA’s instructions on how to apply and submit your request for a waiver using the COW Application Instructions and the Performance Based Standards on the FAA.GOV/UAS website. You can find the list of the current COW’s issued to date HERE.
